Of course you want to increase your business goals but what does that mean in practice…?
I have always been a dreamer and I love creating vision boards and coming up with fabulous ideas.
What I struggled with is the execution of those ideas, the day to day side of things.
That is why I find it quite useful to create a strategy that works.
Here are some important elements to make your goals reality…
1. Make a choice!
There will always be many options, you will always have lots of ideas worth pursuing because this is the human nature, so how do you choose ‘the best option’?
Be mindful of the fear of missing out and making the wrong choice because these are ways for your subconscious to keep you safe.
At the end of the day we cannot predict the future and the only way of growing is to keep moving forward since there are always learning to be had from all experiences.
Be bold and make those choices, put your focus on them and commit to stick to them for a while.
2. Detach from the outcome
Understand that your worth and well-being are not dependent on you achieving your goal.
Wanting to expand is part of being human.
We will always feel inspired to do and create so you can relax and let go of that self imposed pressure.
…and the more detached we are and do things for the fun of it, the easier it is to achieve the result.
The irony…!
3. Track what is important
What gets measured improves.
As you decide on your objective, you need to ask yourself ‘How do I know that I have achieved it?’
Only by asking these questions you will be able to measure your success.
You will also need to create the system to measure the things you deem important.
If your business model relies in referrals, for example, you may want to start measuring your customers’ satisfaction with your services.
That in turn you trigger you creating a process within your business to measure that, like sending surveys for your customer to fill in or capturing testimonials.
4. Find ways of entertain your mind
Now that you decided what is important to track use that to play little games with yourself of the things you will need to accomplish during the week.
You see, we can get caught up in your thinking and the meaning we give to things.
Like feeling rubbish if you haven’t done ALL the things in your ‘to do’ list.
Well, we all know very well that accomplishing our goals it is not about being busy, it is about moving consistently in the right direction.
In the same way as you tend to move more when you are wearing your ‘fitbit’, you will notice yourself giving that last push before you finish your day just so you can beat your target.
5. Work in 90 day periods
You have probably heard of the SMART goals framework (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound).
I think it is quite useful but I don’t agree with the ‘T’ for time by when you will achieve it.
What are you suppose to do if you don’t achieve it by that time?
Give up? Feel like a looser? Neither sound very healthy to me…
Most times the problem is not the strategy but the fact that we don’t stick to it long enough.
There is always an element is testing and trying before you start seeing results and 90 days is just enough time to start noticing results.
