Sometimes all we need is a spark of inspiration to get us moving in the right direction. Sometimes that inspiration comes from the unlikeliest of places.

I recently started swimming. The pool is divided into sections of three lanes. One morning the section I was in was particularly busy. To swim a length without interruption, you had to carefully manoeuvre your way

As I waited for a clear space to swim, it hit me. In order to swim the length uninterrupted, I had to position myself correctly which is exactly the same in business and in life.

Think about it, if you are driving in the left lane in traffic and your sat nav tells you to turn right, you may miss your turning because you are not positioned correctly. When you apply this same principle to life and business this could result in missed opportunities.

I think of positioning on two levels. For optimal results, clarity is required at both levels to ensure you are consistently moving in the right direction.

Positioning yourself in your mind

  2. See yourself having an impact on the people you are here to serve.
  3. See yourself making a difference in the world (however big or small that might be)
  4. You will struggle to be in the right place for the possibilities and opportunities waiting for you to show up.

It is also the beginning of your conversation communicating who you are, what you do and what you stand for with your target audience.
