The beginning of a new chapter
The beginning of a new chapter is always a great opportunity to reflect on the journey you have travelled, acknowledge and celebrate your wins and review your relationship with purpose.
One of the most frequently asked questions, while we navigate our way through life, is “Why am I here?” We are all in search of a reason for our existence, the thing that makes all the pain, the problems and challenges worthwhile. Some of us discover it quicker and, easier than others and some of us never make a real connection with it at all.
The late great Dr Myles Monroe said
“he greatest tragedy in life is not death…but life without reason. It is dangerous to be alive and not know why you were given life.
Pursuit of purpose can sometimes feel like a complicated puzzle and a fluid construct with change dependent on the season, situation or circumstance we find ourselves in.
As you review and reflect on your purpose, I want to share a couple of things I have discovered along the way:
- Purpose is like fuel in the tank keeping us moving and pushing through the twists and turns in the road. It is the reason we get up each morning, keep going and get up each time we fall down.
- Purpose is not a position. Your purpose exists beyond the limitations of titles and job descriptions.
I have thought a lot about purpose and the whole process made me realise that our purpose is to shine the light into the darkness for others to find their way. Instead of asking the question “What is my purpose?” Maybe the question is “How do I use my skills, gifts and talents to shine my light in the darkness?”
