Five lessons water teaches us about life and Personal Branding
A simple walk through a park provides me with food for thought. I think it is fair to say that I am a student of the great outdoors. It is my fuel stop and I always leave feeling refreshed, energised, and inspired to take action.
Today my walk took me past a body of water and the flow was fiercer than I had ever seen before. As I watched the water beat against the rocks, I thought about the business journey and in that moment, I realised there are valuable lessons we can all learn from water.
Here are five of the many ways this watery scene spoke to me and the lessons I think are a value add to Personal Brand strategy and business growth.
Water is free and doesn’t ask for permission
It makes no apologies for what it is and never stops to compare itself to anything else.
- How apologetic are you about who you are and how you show up in the world
- Do you find yourself comparing yourself to others, what they are doing and what they have achieved?
2.Water is flexible and has purpose
It adjusts to situations and circumstances in pursuit of its goal and destination. Things may slow it down and the route may change but water will always find a way to get through.
- How flexible are you?
- What challenges have you allow to stop you from moving forward and reaching your goals?
- Do you feel you have to always be going at a fast pace?
3.Water is not attached to what it has left behind
Instead it adjusts as a result of the experience and keeps going.
- How are things of the past affecting you?
- What can you learn from the past to help you navigate the journey ahead more effectively?
Water is Persistent
On its chosen path, faced with a seemingly immoveable object, like a rock, water simply keeps going and will eventually carve a way through. It may be delayed but is never stopped by the things that get in its way.
- Do you give up easily or are you persistent?
- Consider a time in your life that you have been persistent and have achieved your goal
- Where in your life or your business do you need to be more persistent
5. Water is Powerful
It is a force to be reconnected with. It understands its purpose and its value.
- What value do you bring to the table?
- Do you find yourself questioning whether who you are and whether what you do is enough?
These five points really got me thinking. How do they resonate with you?
Think about your life and your business and how these elements apply to your strategy and action plans.
Until next time
