Cathy Dobson is a British writer who has been living in Germany for nearly 20 years. She also runs a successful consultancy business from the pig-sty behind the old German farmhouse where she lives with her husband, three children and an ever fluctuating number of cats. As well as performing her own works and after dinner speaking, Cathy also records audio books.
Her first autobiographical novel, Planet Germany, tells the tale of the family’s bungled attempts to integrate into German culture. They inevitably end up in embarrassing scrapes, hilarious muddles or they fall foul of the local policeman enforcing baffling local bylaws. All is complicated further by the constant brooding presence of the author’s German colleague, who is convinced that the island-dwelling Brits are both backward and under-nourished. It also explains why the author will never, ever approach a dachshund.
