Jackie Barrie founded the Comms Plus writing and design agency in 2001 after working for 20 years in the corporate world as a copywriter and marketer. She is the author of The Little Fish Guide to DIY Marketing: How to Make a Big Splash with a Small Budget, the first in a series of simple guides for startups and small businesses.

She has also worked as an insurance clerk, a bar-maid and a tea-lady.

Her favourite aspect of employment was having an MGF as a company car. Her favourite aspect of self-employment is not having to ask anyone for a day off.

Jackie holds an Open University BA Honours degree that included the psychology of how people process words and symbols. She is also qualified as an NLP Practitioner (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), for a deeper understanding of the power of language in written and spoken communications. She originally trained as a journalist.

In addition, she has studied creative writing with Sue Townsend (author of Adrian Mole) on a Greek island, achieved Advanced Communicator (Bronze) with Toastmasters, and moderated networking groups for BRX and Ecademy. She is also an Ezine Articles expert author, a co-founder of Bromley Creative Community and was on the original Information Design Association committee.

She hates tomatoes, alarm clocks and shoes, and likes dancing, scuba diving and making people laugh.
