A spa break at Rowton Hall Hotel
Years and years ago my then fiance and I wanted to get married at a little country house hotel and spa about 20 minutes from were we lived, Rowton Hall. We viewed it on a number of occasions and I totally fell in love with it but unfortunately due to family travel restrictions we were unable to have our wedding there if we wanted all our family to attend, so we decided to have it closer to them instead. But ever since that day Rowton Hall has always had a special place in my heart and this Christmas my husband surprised me a voucher for an over night stay, meal, spa access and a massage and this weekend we left the kids behind and went to enjoy some quality time in a beautiful setting.
Rowton hall is located only 5-10 minutes away from Chester city center but because it is set back from the main road it feels like it is a million miles away, the perfect location if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
On arrival we were shown to our room, a double en-suite over looking the grounds. The room was spacious, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean but my goodness the room was freezing! It felt like no one had been in it for a couple of days and the heating hadn’t been put on. Luckily the room had a heater in the corner so we used that and it warmed up pretty quickly whilst we got ready to use the spa.
We had been provided with robes and slippers to use in the spa and I always like this little touch when I stay at spa hotels, it makes the whole experience feel more relaxed instead of heaving swim bags and gym clothes all around the hotel with you. So we changed into our gowns and headed to the spa.
The spa is lovely, the changing rooms are elegantly designed, although there is only one changing room so you need to jump in it quick if you are not a fan of public changing. We had a lovely relaxing time swimming, using the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, total bliss and just what we both needed.
Later that evening we dined in the restaurant and I was blown away by the quality of the food. You could see a lot of thought and effort had gone into designing the menu and dressing the plates and it tasted amazing, especially the lamb. All the staff were happy and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, you felt like nothing was too much trouble and there was no rush to leave once you had eaten.
The next morning I was treated to a massage in the spa and once again I was so impressed with the service. The beautician asked me what I wanted and how firm I wanted it and, unlike some places, actually listened to me. Due to some long term back issues I had asked for a firm massage and wow did I get one. I am not sure where the beautician got her strength from but it was one of the firmest massages I have ever have, she even added some cooling gel after in case it began to hurt. For the rest of the day my back felt looser, I hadn’t realised how tight it was, she worked wonders and I will definitely be booking in with her again.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Rowton hall and I left feeling relaxed and happy. My only negative point is that I was cold, every where I went I could feel a chill in the air, and without the heater in the bedroom I think I may have had to complain.
If you are looking for a nice night away near Chester then I would recommend Rowton hall, just remember to pack some warm pajamas. If you live near Chester and don’t fancy staying over then it is still worth a visit to dine in the restaurant for a special occasion or to make use of some of their spa day offers where you can relax in luxury.
Our stay was bought on a recent groupon offer and worth every penny so be sure to shop around for some of their deals before you book it.
