Writing and keeping up a blog is hard enough work – but then you have to promote it, and that’s where the real nightmare can start! It can be incredibly frustrating to write a great article and not be able to get people to read it. I often find that promoting my blog posts takes a lot more time than actually writing the content! But it is worth it because without promotion, no one will see your content, no matter how good it is. There are just too many great blogs, and I’m the first to admit that it’s hard to stand out and to get people to listen to you. But not impossible! Here are some of the tactics that I use to promote my blog:

Quality content

I know this should go without saying, but I have to stress just how important quality content is. Nowadays, almost every person and every business has a blog. It almost seems to be the only way to get noticed in the online world. But that leads to a lot of “noise” which makes it increasingly hard to get noticed by the audience. What makes people stand out in the end is creative, interesting, relevant content that is also, preferably, educational. The better your content is, the easier it will be to stand out and get more traffic.

Ready for Google

I’m not a search engine optimization expert, but I do have some tips and tricks that I use to get better rankings on search engines. Firstly, I try to include as many relevant keywords as possible in my blog posts, without damaging the user’s reading experience. I do the same with page and article titles – the more primary keywords you can include, the better! I also use a few SEO plugins from WordPress – they are very easy to use, even for beginners and they can bring in great results!

Twitter

Twitter is one of my favorite ways of blog promotion. I use it to promote both my blog and individual blog posts. It’s very easy to use, it’s free and with the right tools, it doesn’t even take too much time! I personally use SocialOomph to schedule all of my updates and HootSuite as my main dashboard for both me and my clients.

Facebook

Facebook is another great and free way to promote your blog. And now, with the launch of their new feature, graph search, a whole new world of promotion possibilities could emerge – we’ll have to wait and see. I usually post on Facebook whenever I have a new article out and encourage my fans to read it, comment and share.

Social sharing buttons

Make it easy for your readers to share your content with their friends and followers, by installing sharing buttons of all the top social networks on your website. Have them on all the different pages on your blog, as well as on every one of your articles, so that your readers can also tweet/post your individual articles. This is a very simple and effective way to promote your blog and get more traffic.

Guest blogging

As you can see, I love guest blogging – I reach a whole new audience, get backlinks, promote my blog and get more traffic. Guest posting is not a one-way street however, it also works when other bloggers post on your website, as they might bring some of their audience with them!

Engagement

I love talking with my readers and I always take some time to respond to their comments, thank them for sharing, retweeting or for saying something nice about me or my blog posts. And because of that they are more inclined to comment and share!

Monitor your results

By carefully monitoring your blog traffic, you can find the information that you need to make better blog posts and as well as promoting it better. What articles were most read? What social network brings in the most traffic? Which articles get the most comments? With this information you will know what types of articles to write and which platforms to use more for promotional activities in order to get the best results.

Promoting a blog post is not an easy task, and it can take a lot of time and effort to do it right. Trying just one tactic at a time is usually not enough, and most bloggers find themselves needing to combine several tactics to effectively promote their blog.

How do you promote your blog posts? I would love to hear about your tactics so please leave your comments:)
